JGC Fine Art, New York, was established in 2017 when Cecil was affiliated with an international art advisory firm. She advised clients on all aspects of collecting and privately placed important 20th century works of art from a renowned estate.
As Director of Edward Tyler Nahem Fine Art, NY, from November 2010 to September 2017, Cecil oversaw all aspects of the gallery including sales, consignments, client development, exhibitions, and art fairs. Together with Nahem, she expanded the gallery's art fair participation to include Art Basel Hong Kong, The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) New York, and Foire internationale d’art contemporain (FIAC), Paris, building on the gallery’s established participation at Art Basel Switzerland and Art Basel Miami Beach.
Cecil was an organizer of such acclaimed exhibitions as Joan Mitchell: At the Harbor and in the Grande Vallée, curated by Dr. Jeffrey Grove, and Ed Ruscha: Ribbon Words, curated by Dr. Dieter Buchhart. The Ruscha exhibition featured over fifty works from international private and public collections, including The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C., and the UBS Collection, among many others.
Prior to joining Nahem in 2010, Cecil held the positions of Sales Director and Director of Publications and Press at Marlborough Gallery, New York, which she joined in 2001. She was an organizer of numerous museum and public exhibitions of gallery artists and was frequently published in catalogues and in the art press. Favorites among these include the celebrated show, Manolo Valdés on Broadway, for which Cecil wrote and recorded the audio tour, and Chakaia Booker: Mass Transit, the innovative artist’s first outdoor public exhibition organized with the Arts Council of Indianapolis.
Cecil began her career in 1992 with nine years at Wildenstein & Company, New York, the celebrated Old Master and Impressionist gallery. Following the partnership of Wildenstein and Pace Gallery, Cecil also sold works by the contemporary artists of PaceWildenstein, New York.
Cecil has been responsible for the placement of important works by artists foundational to modern, postwar, and contemporary art, including Josef Albers, Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, John Chamberlain, Chu Teh-Chun, George Condo, Helen Frankenthaler, Alex Katz, Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter, Ed Ruscha, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, and Zao Wou-Ki, among many other artists.
Raised in Arlington, Virginia, Cecil is a graduate in the History of Art from Barnard College, Columbia University, and attended Reid Hall, Columbia University, Paris, France from 1990 to 1991.
Cecil is an Executive Member of ArtTable; a member of the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture Council; a member of the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Studio Forum; The Founder’s Circle of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; an active member of Art 21; Artadia; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield; Independent Curators International (ICI); Space on Ryder Farm, Brewster; and a Patron of The Museum of Modern Art, NY. Additionally, Cecil supports organizations devoted to the well-being and education of children.
